Disease Management
The Congestive Heart Failure Internet Initiative (CHFII) is a business concept jointly developed by Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) and Duke University. The goal of this joint venture is to provide the necessary tools for Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients and their doctors to manage and track their symptoms, while improving the quality of care and reducing both the cost and time required to treat their disease. This new business will offer health care providers an efficient and cost-effective way to capture key patient data, analyze that data, and immediately develop a treatment plan to improve long-term care. The business will also empower CHF patients, allowing them to monitor and enhance their disease self-management from home and provide easy, consistent, and accurate ways for patients to interact directly with their own physician.
Building on the success of the CHF initiative, this paradigm can then be extended to CAD, diabetes, asthma, or any other area of medicine. The ultimate goal is to provide personal health records, health risk assessments, and directed care to the individual patient to increase patient involvement (and accountability) in their own care.
