Afaria is a software program used to update the content and programs on your PDA. To run Afaria, follow these instructions.

1. Reset (reboot) your PDA.

2. Establish a connection to the Duke Network. Any of these connections will work:

  • 802.11b wireless - inside Duke Hospital / Clinics / North Pavilion

  • PDA in the cradle, attached to a PC at Duke (requires an ActiveSync connection)

  • PDA in the cradle, attached to your home PC / laptop, connected to Duke via a VPN connection (requires an ActiveSync connection)

3. On the PDA, tap on Start (upper left-hand corner), Programs, and Afaria.

4. On the Afaria main screen, tap View on the menu bar:

 

 

5. Then tap Configuration on the View menu:

 

 

6. Make sure that the following settings are entered (you can change the channel as needed):

8. Tap and let Afaria run

9. Accept any defaults, indicate 'Yes To All' when asked about overwriting files (even if the file date is older - it doesn't matter!).

10. Make sure that there are no connection errors.  If an error is returned, make sure that you have a connection to the Duke network, then try again. If the errors continue, reboot your PDA and try again.  If the update fails again, contact your computer support person or Jimmy Tcheng.

One time maintenance:

 

  • avantgo - new install AvantGo client

12. Reset (reboot) your PDA.
